Argh I knew I was going to be a lousy mod -_-;; thankfully itapos;s not just me in charge here, lol. Thanks you guys for keeping up with the discussion and the J/B goodness.
I was, however, considering a new theory - well, new to me, at least. Iapos;m pretty sure it has already been done before. Anyway... Jaime refers to Brienne as "the Hound with teats". Many have noticed that - assuming she will survive the end of AFfC - she will, indeed, be a lot like Sandor, what with half of her face being disfigured.
Now, what do we know about Sandor? He starts his character arc as being very cynical about honor, knighthood, and the likes. He is, however, somewhat affected by meeting Sansa (who, although declined in a more feminine way, is as idealistic and naive as Brienne). And if we assume he *is* the gravedigger at the Quiet Isle, we can also say that, after a near-death experience in the Riverlands, he found a new life, and apparently spiritual renovation, giving up on his Hound persona.
Letapos;s take a look at Brienneapos;s arc instead: starts off as very dedicated to the ideals of knighthood, and clings to it as itapos;s what gives her a goal in life. First Renlyapos;s death, and then Jaimeapos;s cynicism about the "true face" of knighthood, might be shattering her beliefs at least a little bit. And eventually, she finds herself facing a sticky end at the hands of the woman she swore her loyalty to, after being rendered even uglier than before... Now, I hope that Brienneapos;s outstanding moral fiber will eventually prevail, but what if *she* ends up being the one who says "bugger the whole honor thing"? What if all the shit she went through finally makes her bitter and angry - letapos;s face it, many of us would have given up way earlier?
Of course this is utter speculation (it happens when years pass between books *coughs*), but me being slighlty paranoid, I canapos;t help but think itapos;s weirdly plausible. The fact that Brienne would be the only one to see Sandor alive post his "death"; that the last battle we see her fighting is against the fakeHound... It might be a coincindence. Or not. Itapos;s Martin, Iapos;ve learned to expect the worst case scenarios from him, lol :-D
